There is no time like the present to start preparing for the holidays. Preparing well in advance will help reduce your stress levels and make the holidays more enjoyable for you and your family.
Rather than waiting to the last minute, start planning your “Gift List” now. You can store your list in your cell phone, in a notepad or as word document in your computer. Just make sure it is easy for you to access because you may be referring to it often.
Here are the steps to create your “Gift List”:
1. Make a list of the people you want to buy gifts for during the holidays.
2. Listen carefully when speaking to family, friends & clients; this will help you get clues on their interests, hobbies and needs. Make notes of your findings next to each of the names on your list.
3. When you find the perfect gift;
-
Add the item next to the person’s name
-
List the name of the store where you saw it or attach a link
-
Include the cost of the item to help you budget
A great way to help space out your holiday spending it to purchase the gifts as you find them, even if it is 2 months early. This will also reduce the amount of shopping you will need to do at the last minute and will help you avoid the crowded malls during peak holiday shopping season.
You may want to consider keeping up your “Gift List” year round so that you have great gift ideas for birthdays too!
