Do you finish with excellence?

Start of strong but what makes a champion is how you end the game. I was in a restaurant recently, they had recently opened. Our initial server was very attentive and caring BUT somewhere in the middle they changed the server. The new server was very aloof and when he presented us the check, it had some errors.

At that moment I gathered that it is not only important to have a strong start BUT also a strong end for lasting impression and excellence.

This can be applied in your personal and professional lives. In any relationship, it is not only important to check in and be attentive at the beginning BUT also important to see that details are taken care of till the end. Many of us lose sight of the end. This is equally important as the beginning. Infact when the initial enthusiasm of the project dies it becomes important that we constantly keep track of the ongoing changes and situations.

If you are trying to get into a personal relationship, we all try to look and act at our best and when we are in it, we stop paying attention to detail – this only shows lack of interest and concern for the other person. Try to impress them by looking and acting at your best because this will have an impact on how the relationship will transform – either it will evolve with attention to excellence or end with lack of attention to detail.

So, ending is important for leaders in relationships and business. They are in it to make sure that the value is delivered and a lasting relationship is developed.

Dear people,

In this article I would like to introduce yoga as a holistic system to attain good health.

Yoga believes that the physical body, the breath and the mind have to be in harmony to achieve perfect health. Unlike stretching or workouts, yoga is more than just physical postures. The practice of yogic postures is one of the eight-fold path of Patanjali’s yoga. Even within the physical practice, yoga is unique because we connect the movement of the body and the fluctuations of the mind to the rhythm of our breath. This helps us direct out attention inward. We become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment. The body will most likely become much more flexible and so will your mind. This way one is in peaceful harmony with self and the environ.

Benefits of Yogasanas.

1. Yogic postures are not merely body sculpting or muscle building exercises
It helps in strengthening the internal organs, detox the body, build immunity and attain balance, harmony and tranquility. This is how yoga helps battle common health hazards of high pressure urban life styles like diabetes, cholesterol, stress, BP, etc. The reasons why yogasanas is the preferred route when one seeks the holistic health and not just cosmetic form.

2. Yogasanas give sufficient exercise to the internal organs of the body.
Consequently, the individual can maintain good health and longevity. Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) targets the thyroids. Healthy thyroids means healthy functioning of all the organs of the body. It tones up respiratory, circulatory, digestive and excretory system.

3. Yoga has a beneficial effect on the mind and the senses.
It calms the mind and helps de-stress it. For e.g. Padmasana(lotus pose) is not just a posture for legs or spine. It has a relaxing affect on the nervous system, the breath slows down, muscular tension is decreased and blood pressure is reduced.

4. The body becomes flexible by doing yogasanas.
It becomes active with an increased ability of doing any activity. One who performs yoga looks younger and lives longer.

5. The power of expansion and contraction of lungs is increased by practicing yogasanas and pranayamas.
This results in purification of blood to a great extent. For example; matsyasana (fish pose), suptavajrasana, bhujangasana(cobra pose), suryanamaskar(sun salutations) are some of the asanas helpful in treating chest related disorders.

6. Yogasanas keep the spine flexible..
Stiffness in the wrist, neck and shoulder caused due to long hours of sitting in front of computer is very common. It can be very painful and stressful if the postures are not maintained properly. Matsyasana is one of the asanas that can be practiced to relieve the neck and shoulder stiffness and also improves the flexibility of spine. Shalabhasana (locust pose) works mainly on the lower back and strengthens it. Bidalasana (cat pose) flexes the spine and stretches the middle to upper back and shoulders. Chakrasana(wheel pose) makes the spine quite elastic. It builds resistance against scitica, slipped disc and other hip and back ailments and bone disorders like osteoporosis. Shavasana(corpse pose) is a classic relaxation pose for minor back aches before and in between asanas. Lifespan, health and youth depends on the flexibility of spine.

7. The Asanas require the least possible physical energy.
As a result one feels less tired. Yoga is a form of exercise that conserves energy. It helps the mind to experience tranquility. Because of the calm mind there is progressive intellectual development. It stimulates different glands of the body which helps the body to acquire well balanced growth. Chakrasana (wheel pose) stimulates the thyroid and the pituitary glands. Shirshasana (head stand) stimulates the pituitary, pineal, thyroid and parathyroid glands that are responsible for our very existence. It restores the position of vital organs by reversing gravity.

8. Disease prevention
Diseases like constipation, diabetes, blood pressure, headache, asthma etc can be cured by practicing yogasanas and pranayama. There is sufficient elimination of stool and other waste matter through yoga hence the body has more resistance to keep the diseases at bay.

9. Yoga makes spiritual development possible.
There is no restriction of age and sex.

10. Yoga is for healthy and the sick (under proper guidance).
Only a small airy place and a few equipments are required for practicing yoga. Yogasanas and pranayamas help supply plenty of oxygen so the body becomes healthy and the mind is contended and delightful.

There is yoga for almost all disorders ranging from obesity , gastritis, arthritis, anxiety, psoriasis, heart diseases, insomnia, varicose veins, spondylitis, hernia, menstrual disorders, diabetes etc and even cancer. Keeping all this in mind one should begin to practice the techniques of yoga under proper guidance. The aspirant after performing yogasanas should feel no tiredness and feel the increased capacity to work with his light and refreshed body. So go get yourself refreshed and enjoy the lightness in mind and body!

The other day I had someone ask whether they should blog. My first response was, “Of course” but I tempered that by asking why he wanted to blog. He said he was going into a MBA program and wondered if blogging might help him in gaining credibility. He also wondered whether spouting his political views might hurt him in obtaining job offers. My answers were, “maybe and possibly…”

Blogging can set you up as an expert in your chosen field whether it’s baking, writing, hot air balloon-making or dog walking. If you have the knowledge and background in a particular area then, blog about it. If you can write humorously on a variety of topics, then go for it. There are some blogs I read to be entertained and others I read to learn and others I simply pop by to see what’s going on in the “neighborhood.”

I visit political blogs and that is not an area that interests me.

You have to clear about what are the objectives of your blog:

1. Be Authentic

2. Don’t try to sell things

3. Choose your topics clearly.

If you are creating content, try to give people value and inform them of things that they did not know about. Become a source of information of the area you wish you become an expert on. Finally, it is the people who come to your blog will determine if they find it useful to visit you or not.

As humans we are evolving all the time. Darwin coined the term “survival of the fittest” which really means “survival of fiercest” . Our nervous system has been hard wired to be aggressive. By large, being reactive and aggressive was good at the time when we were surrounded by predators. But subsequently, the human kind has progressed.

But the unique quality of human beings as mentioned by Deepak Chopra is that they have the ;creative response; – create something that never existed before. Beyond the creative, there is ; visionary response; and finally we have ;sacred response; which connects us to our own potential.

Earlier, there was a need to survive to continue our existence. The society has moved on since then. We cannot be limited to Fight OR Flight response. Human beings also have the potential in their nervous system to nurture, be productive and have a mutual connection. There is a shift in the evolution of the human species – now we are moving into phase of “survival of the wisest” as coined by Jonas Salk – evolution of their inner consciousness.

Self-awareness is important because man is not in the similar threat for survival BUT what he needs is to go beyond his physical attributes and become competent in being self-aware. This will require man to be become WISER. The evolution of the wisest holds that this cannot be a random process.

The role of WISDOM will play a big part in the survival of the human race. The next generation can already read, write, use iPhones and Mac books much faster than the previous generation. When we move to a world controlled by technology, it is important that we are self-aware and the potential of our creativity is for the Bigger Purpose of helping, collaborating and progressing and NOT destructive, competitive and self-serving.

What is KEY is Development of self-awareness; is realizing a person’s most productive style, the environment in which they will be most productive, and what their behavior will be in stress. And then carving out methods for moving out of stress which is a prerequisite to any of the group awareness and bigger vision.
